PUBLISHED:  | UPDATED:
Authorities believe the death of a man found unresponsive Monday, Feb. 3 outside of a library in Torrance was a homicide resulting from an altercation, and have arrested a suspect on suspicion of murder.
Officers and firefighters responded at about 7:45 a.m. to the Katy Geissert Civic Center Library at 3301 Torrance Blvd., and encountered the victim nearby lying in some grass, Torrance Police Department officials said in a news release.
Los Angeles County Coroner’s personnel were called to the scene, and confirmed that the man had died, Torrance Fire Department Assistant Chief Carl Besanceney said.
The preliminary investigation suggested that the victim had been involved in an altercation with one other man, police said.

The man suspected of injuring him was located by authorities and taken into custody. He was booked on suspicion of murder. His name was initially withheld by officials for investigative purposes.
Officials were working to learn the identity of the dead man.
Police believe this was an isolated incident, and there was no lingering threat to the public following the suspect’s arrest.
Investigators were looking into the matter, and asked anyone with information regarding the incident to contact Torrance Police at 310-328-3456.
