Reported Leak of Modified Hydroflouric Acid at the Torrance Refinery

This is the Hazardous Materials Spill Report on the reported 5 gallon leak of Modified Hydroflouric Acid at the Torrance Refinery this morning.  Posting on Facebook from the Torrance Fire Deparment is at the bottom of this email.

39 incidents were reported during the week. This is the link to the complete Torrance Police Department Weekly Crime Log:  https://www.torranceca.gov/home/showdocument?id=47237 RESIDENTIAL BURGLARIES There were 3 in Torrance and none in Southeast Torrance. 1 in North Torrance on Friday, December 14th at 3:50 AM when the suspect attempted to pry open a window but was startled by the homeowner and fled. 1 in the Riviera on Monday, December 10th at 9:45PM when the suspect smashed a rear kitchen glass door in an attempt to enter but fled when confronted by the homeowner. 1 in Southwood on Monday, December 10th after 9:30 PM when the suspect smashed a window in an attempt to gain entry but fled when the homeowner turned on a light. INCREASE IN AUTO BURGLARIES AND AUTO THEFT IN SOUTHEAST TORRANCE THIS REPORTING PERIOD.
This report is for Sunday, December 2, 2018 through Saturday, December 8, 2018 46 incidents in the log for this reporting period. AUTO BURGLARIES There were 15 in Torrance and 4 in Southeast Torrance. 12/8 6:15 PM to 12/9 2 AM        24200 Block Huber  Suspect enters unlocked vehicle and took cell phone, keys, ID and paperwork.

One person killed in Old Torrance shooting and Weekly Crime Report

Police were investigating a deadly officer-involved shooting (OIS) Sunday night in Torrance, according to authorities and media reports. One person was killed in the OIS, media reports said. It was reported about 8 p.m. in the 1700 block of Carson street, slightly west of Western Avenue, Torrance police said. No officers were hurt. It’s unknown at this point what led up to the shooting. The area around the scene has been closed for the police and death investigation. People were urged to avoid the area. Broadcast reports said police had an armored vehicle at the scene. The scene of the incident is the Ralph’s parking lot. Weekly Crime Report for Sunday, November 25, 2018 through Saturday, December 1, 2018. AQMD Refinery Fence Line Air Quality Monitoring

The Torrance Refinery Rule 1180 Refinery Fence Line Monitoring Plan, as required by the South Coast AQMD, has been released for public comment.  Comments from the public will be accepted until 5:30PM, December 21, 2018.

Capital Improvement Project in Southeast Torrance

The City of Torrance has awarded a construction contract for work that will generally consist of localized repairs of damaged sidewalks, repair of damaged curbs and driveways and handicap ramp upgrades in Southeast Torrance.  There will also be some associated tree
removal and replacements.  The work has begun and is anticipated to last through March 2019. The project will be in the area from Sepulveda Blvd on the north to the city limits on the south and from Cabrillo Avenue on the west to Western Avenue on the east in Southeast Torrance. The contractor will be distributing a flyer in phases as the construction progresses.  However, they will only be distributing flyers to addresses where work is occurring. We are letting you know now about the project so you will be aware of it. The flyer has contact information if you have any questions about the project.

Residential Fire in Southeast Torrance

T F D has responded to a 2nd alarm structure fire near the 23700 Block of Vine Ave. The fire has been extinguished. Vine Avenue remains closed until further notice. T F D units remain on scene.

Santa Claus Float Schedule for Southeast Torrance

The Santa Claus float, sponsored by the Torrance Police Officers Association, is scheduled to be in Southeast Torrance on Thursday, November 29th and Friday, November 30th.
The float leaves the Torrance Police Department at 5 PM each night. Thursday, November 29th.  The route will cover the area between Sepulveda Blvd to 239th Street                                                      and from Crenshaw Blvd to Arlington Avenue. Friday, November 30th         The route will cover the area between Sepulveda Blvd to 242nd Street
