Weekly Crime Report for Southeast Torrance

This report is for Sunday, April 12, 2015 through Saturday, April 18, 2015   RESIDENTIAL BURGLARIES There were 5 in Torrance and none in Southeast Torrance. 1 each in North Torrance, Madrona area, Seaside Ranchos, Hickory Park and the 3700 Block of Spencer Ave (Roslin Ave).   AUTO BURGLARIES There were 12 in Torrance and one in Southeast Torrance. Wednesday, April 15th, 10 AM to Thursday, April 16th, 10:36 AM 2400 Block 227th Street (Pennsylvania) Vehicle entered by unknown means, tablet and jewelry stolen.   AUTO THEFT There were 11 in Torrance and 2 in Southeast Torrance. City Council To Vote on 65 Foot Cell Phone Tower at Sur La Brea Park

  Item 12A on the Torrance City Council agenda for Tuesday, April 21st is the proposed 65 foot Verizon Wireless Cell Phone/Data Tower at Sur La Brea Park. The agenda item follows:   12A. City Manager - Adopt RESOLUTION and approve lease for a portion of  City-owned property located at 1919 West 237th Street at Sur La Brea Park. Expenditure: None. This report is for Sunday, April 5, 2015 through Saturday, April 11, 2015.   RESIDENTIAL BURGLARIES There were 4 in Torrance.  1 in Hollywood Riviera where a window was smashed for entry, 1 in Old Torrance where entry was made through a unlocked rear door, 1 in North Torrance where entry was made through a unlocked bathroom window and 1 in Southeast Torrance in the 2100 Block of Reynosa Drive on Monday, April 6th at 6:48 PM where suspect took property from the mailbox and removes window screen/delivered mail.   AUTO BURGLARIES There were 13 in Torrance and none in Southeast Torrance. 5 vehicles were unlocked and 3 were entered via unknown means.  4 sets of third row seats were taken from vehicles during daylight hours and 1 set taken while the vehicle was being serviced.   AUTO THEFT There were 8 vehicles stolen in Torrance and none in Southeast Torrance.   John Bailey, President SETHA

This report is for Sunday, March 29, 2015 through Saturday, April 4, 2015   RESIDENTIAL BURGLARIES There were 4 in Torrance and none in Southeast Torrance.   Saturday, April 4th   7 PM to 9 PM  2900 Block Oakwood Lane (East Walteria) Entry by unknown means, no entry, no loss at time of report.   Friday, April 3rd,      6:30 PM to 9:45 PM  200 Block Via Pasqual (Hollywood Riviera) Screen removed and window smashed for entry.  Cash, laptop and check stolen.   Tues, March 31st to Thursday, April 2nd     2100 Block Santa Cruz Court (Torrance Park) Multiple screens pried from windows.  No entry, no loss.   Tues, March 31st,    11 AM to 2:30 PM  2300 Block Sonoma St (Old Torrance) Entry via possibly open window.  Ransacked and laptop, check book, ferry ticket book, and jewelry stolen.   AUTO BURGLARIES There were 8 in Torrance and none in Southeast Torrance.   AUTO THEFT There were 3 stolen vehicles and none in Southeast Torrance.

SHOTS FIRED IN SOUTHEAST TORRANCE An argument between known individuals at the Knolls Mobile Home Park at 237th and Walnut escalated and several shots were fired in the vicinity of the emergency gate on Walnut Street around noon, Thursday, April 2nd. One man was grazed.   One Southeast Torrance resident reported that Torrance Police also responded to another incident within the last 7 days involving trailer park residents.   WEEKLY CRIME REPORT There were 9 residential burglaries in Torrance and none in Southeast Torrance. 5 in the Hollywood Riviera, 3 in North Torrance and 1 in West Torrance. Windows were open in 4 of the burglaries and 1 door was unlocked.  A suspect fled a Hollywood Riviera home when he realized the victim was home.  Another suspect fled a Riviera home when the residents returned to their house during the burglary.   AUTO BURGLARY There were 10 auto burglaries in Torrance and none in Southeast Torrance. 4 third row seats

TUSD Pools to be built at Shery Continuation High

District officials selected the Crenshaw Boulevard site from among four contenders at a Tuesday night meeting. “I think it was the best site, but we owed it to the community that we looked at all available sites,” said Don Lee, school board president. Officials hope to break ground on the 66,000-square-foot competitive swimming venue about a year from now. Construction is expected to take 12 months. The state-of-the-art facility — which be shared by the four high schools — will likely include two pools, seating for about 500 spectators and an outdoor plaza with concession area.
