Road Construction on Hawthorne Blvd #4 Traffic Lane Will Be Impacted

The #4 traffic lane will be closed for road work. Be prepared for traffic impacts. Weekly Crime Report and Police Chief Retiring

The Weekly Crime Report for November 1, 2020 through November 7, 2020 has not been released. Torrance Police Chief Eve Berg has announced that she will be retiring from her position as Police Chief effective Jan. 8, 2021. Chief Berg began her law enforcement career with the Inglewood PD in 1984 after graduating from the LASD Academy. She was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 1994; to rank of Lieutenant in 1999 and in 2003 the rank of Captain. In 2011, she was appointed Chief of Police for the Manhattan Beach Police Department and served in the capacity until appointed in January, 2018 as the Torrance Police Department's Chief of Police. The Lundquist Institute at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center Administers First Phase 3 AstraZeneca Trial Injection Friday, September 4, 2020 Investigator(s) Eric Daar, MD LOS ANGELES – The Lundquist Institute at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center officially began phase 3 trials of the Oxford University – AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine trial on Friday, September 4. The vaccine is called AZD1222 and has already gone through early trials. This trial is designed to determine whether the vaccine can prevent symptomatic COVID-19 after two doses. The study aims to enroll 30,000 volunteers across the United States. It is important to note that this vaccine does not have a live virus and cannot give a person COVID-19. If the results from the trial are positive, the vaccine could be made available to the public to prevent disease. The Torrance City Council will be appointing residents to various Commissions this month and in December. The transaction price of $548.33 per square foot is the twice the average rate for the area, according to CoStar. The former Costco Wholesale Corp. warehouse store is being updated for use as an Amazon Hub warehouse space, with a small consumer operation. At the time Costco said that it was too small. AUTO BURGLARIES There were 10 in Torrance. 3 in North Torrance, 3 in the Riviera, 2 in West Torrance and 2 in Southeast Torrance in the 2200 Block of Sepulveda Blvd and the 23800 Block of Vine Avenue. 4 of the vehicles were unlocked. A US Mail truck was entered by unknown means on September 4th between 6:40 PM and 7:00 PM at 176th and Ainsworth Avenue. Mail was stolen. Items stolen included a sweater, face masks, disinfectant wipes, garage remote, bag, bucket, tools, US Mail, charger, coin purse, sunglasses, fishing pole, camera, camera bag, wallet, cash, skateboard and climbing gear.

2% Franchise Fee Proposed to Be Added to your Water Bill

  The Finance Director has recommended the City Council levy 2% franchise fees on the gross revenues of the City's water, wastewater and sanitation utilities.    It is estimated the 2% franchise fee would generate just over $1.2 million in annual revenue to the General Fund.  This fee would be in addition to the Utility User Tax on your statement  On January 1, 2020, water rates in Torrance increased by 3.19% and they can be increased again in 2021 and 2022 by a previously approved plan in 2017.  Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach and Redondo Beach do not have water franchise fees.  Gardena and Rancho Palos Verdes have a 2% franchise.   9D.   Sepulveda Blvd. and Maple Ave. Lane Closures Post Date: 08/16/2020 5:43 PM Phillips 66 will  close all traffic lanes on Maple Ave. between Plaza Del Amo and Sepulveda Blvd . to repair their 8” petroleum pipeline at the intersection of Sepulveda Blvd. and Maple Ave.  The work will start on  Monday, 8/17/2020 and is proposed to be completed by 8/31/2020 .  Work schedule will be Monday through Thursday from 8:30AM to 3:30PM .
