Weekly Criime Report July 19 to July 25,2020 and More

  This report is for Sunday, July 19, 2020 through Saturday, July 25, 2020. 46 incidents in the Torrance Police Department Weekly Crime Log at: https://www.torranceca.gov/home/showdocument?id=61072   RESIDENTIAL BURGLARIES There were none in Torrance .   AUTO BURGLARIES There were 9 in Torrance and none in Southeast Torrance. 4 vehicles were unlocked and windows smashed in 2 vehicles for entry. Items stolen included bag, wallet, dash stereo, golf clubs, dash camera, keys, garage remote, cell phones, backpack, wallet, and eyeglasses.   AUTO THEFT There were 12 stolen vehicles in Torrance and 1 in Southeast Torrance. 7/21 12 PM to 7/22 8 PM  22600 Pennsylvania Avenue  2011 Chevrolet Equinox   THEFT There were 16 incidents in Torrance and none in Southeast Torrance. 1 dog, 4 bikes, 2 pickup tailgates, 8 catalytic converters and 2 delivered parcels were stolen.  This report is for Sunday, July 12, 2020 through Saturday, July 18, 2020. There are 62 incidents in the Torrance Police Department Weekly Crime Log at: https://www.torranceca.gov/home/showdocument?id=61022   RESIDENTIAL BURGLARIES There were 4 in Torrance and none in Southeast Torrance. 1 each in Delthorne, Old Town, Riviera and Southwood Riviera.   AUTO BURGLARIES There were 11 in Torrance and 1 in Southeast Torrance. Proposed Legislation in Sacramento May Impact Single Family Housing in Torrance

CITY OF TORRANCE ENCOURAGES THE COMMUNITY TO JOIN IN THEIR OPPOSITION TO ZONING AND HOUSING BILLS In an effort to maintain local control, the City of Torrance has actively engaged in advocacy to oppose various Housing and Zoning Bills. The community is encouraged to join in this effort. Opposing these bills would allow the City to preserve the current character of the community.  In order to maintain local control, the City encourages State Representatives to limit legislative over reaching decisions which are not based on trends and needs specific to local communities.    The Torrance City Council has sent several letters and made numerous calls to express their opposition to State Representatives from our local community.   The City is encouraging the community to join in their efforts and contact State Representatives to voice their concerns.   This report is for Sunday, July 5, 2020 through Saturday, July 11, 2020. The are 63 incidents in the Torrance Police Department Weekly Crime Log at: https://wwwtorranceca.gov/home/showdocument?id=60974   RESIDENTIAL BURGLARIES There were 3 in Torrance and none in Southeast Torrance. 2 in North Torrance and 1 in West Torrance.   AUTO BURGLARIES There were 10 in Torrance and none in Southeast Torrance. Items stolen this week included fly rods, reels, vest with gear, framing guns, nail gun, impact gun and other tools, cash, cell phones, tool bag tools, air pump, chargers, purses, tote, laptop, checks, air compressor, garage remote, satchel, laptops, and wallets.   AUTO THEFT There were 13 stolen vehicles in Torrance and 1 in Southeast Torrance. 7 10 2020  8:12 AM     23700 Block Western Av      2013 Fiat 500   THEFT There were 17 incidents in Torrance and 2 in Southeast Torrance. Update from Torrance Unified School District

Information from Don Lee, TUSD Trustee. John Bailey, President Southeast Torrance Homeowners’ Association, Inc. (SETHA) We are planning for two options, full Distance Learning (all on-line) and a Social Distanced Option where K-5 would go to school half days (there would be a AM and PM cohort) everyday but Wednesday. Wednesday would be used for Teacher conferences and on-line activities with all of the kids, both those distance learning and those going to school at the site.   For Middle and High School they will go to school every other day with Wednesday being for Teacher conferences and school wide on-line activities. They will have a full Distance Learning option as well.   We are going to reach out to the Parents to have them sign up for one of the two options in the next week. Once we know what kids are going where we can then start to put together master schedules and see where we need to assign teachers.   We will probably wait until ear

DMV Grants Extension to Certain Drivers with Expiring Licenses

This action delays the requirement for this population to visit a DMV office during the COVID-19 pandemic. The DMV previously provided 120-day extensions to senior drivers with noncommercial licenses expiring in March through July. Hawthorne Blvd Road Construction Begins July 13th

Caltrans' SR-107 Multimodal Improvement Project Post Date: 07/12/2020 The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) announces the commencement of a multimodal improvement project on State Route 107 (Hawthorne Boulevard) in the City of Torrance due to funds from Senate Bill 1 (SB 1), the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017. The construction phase is scheduled to begin Monday, July 13, 2020, and be completed in spring 2021 .  Construction will occur during the evening.  Residents and local businesses should expect road closures and noise during construction, bus services may be affected. Weekend construction will consist of reconstructing bus pads. Two lanes of Hawthorne Boulevard will be closed from Del Amo Boulevard to Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) between Friday at 8 p.m. through Saturday at 11:59 p.m. This work will occur consecutively for approximately 11 weekends.
