Weekly Crime Report for Southeast Torrance

  The weekly report for Sunday, August 9th through Saturday, August 15th is not available.   This report is for the period from Sunday, August 16th through Saturday, August 22nd. 47 incidents were reported to Torrance Police during the reporting period.   RESIDENTIAL BURGLARIES There were two in Torrance. One in North Torrance where the suspect entered by unknown means and fled when confronted by victim inside residence.  No loss. One in Southwood where the suspect entered victim’s motel room by unknown means and took a cell phone.   AUTO BURGLARIES There were 10 in Torrance.  7 vehicles were unlocked/unsecured. Apartment Fire in Torrance

A person was killed Sunday in a second-alarm fire and possible explosion at an apartment building in Torrance. Firefighters dispatched at approximately 2 a.m. to the 22500 block of Ocean Avenue had the fire out 2:14 a.m., said Capt. Robert Millea of the Torrance Fire Department . It damaged two units, one on the first and another on the second floor of the two-story structure, Millea said. It was not immediately known where in the apartment building the body was found. — City News Service

Weekly Crime Report for Southeast Torrance

This report is for Sunday, August 2, 2015 through Saturday, August 8, 2015.   RESIDENTIAL BURGLARIES There were 8 in Torrance and none in Southeast Torrance. 4 in North Torrance, 2 in the Riviera, 1 near West High and 1 in Seaside Ranchos. A door or window was left open in three of the incidents.  Entry was not made in two of the attempts in North Torrance.  In one Riviera incident, the suspect spent an enjoyable time smoking the cigarettes, indulging in the house liquor and feasting on the food in the residence which is undergoing renovation.    AUTO BURGLARY There were 20 incidents reported in Torrance and 1 in Southeast Torrance.  6 third row seats were taken from vehicles.  4 of them were taken on Tuesday, August 4th and windows were pried on all 4 vehicles to gain entry.  3 of the 4 were stolen between 7:20PM and 9:30PM  in the 3400 Block of Carson, the 3500 Block of Carson and the 22500 Block of Hawthorne Blvd.   Friday, August 7th, 9:

Weekly Crime Report for Southeast Torrance

This report is for Sunday, July 26, 2015 through Saturday, August 1, 2015.   RESIDENTIAL BURGLARIES There were six in Torrance and none in Southeast Torrance. 3 in West Torrance, 2 in North Torrance and 1 in Southwood.   AUTO BURGLARIES There were nine in Torrance and 1 in Southeast Torrance. Tuesday, July 28th, 7:34 PM, 2400 Block 239th St (Pennsylvania) Entry to vehicle made by unknown means.  GPS, cologne and cash taken.   AUTO THEFT There were 3 incidents reported in Torrance and none in Southeast Torrance.   THEFT There were 19 incidents reported in Torrance and none in Southeast Torrance. A catalytic converter was stolen from a vehicle in the 2700 Block of Skypark Dr and a third row seat was taken in the 2600 Block of Pacific Coast Highway.   Suspects took property off vehicles parked in a dealership lot in the 23900 Block of Garnier St.  Wheels, tires, grills and headlamps were stolen.   A suspect responded to victim’s Craigli

Front Door Mats

  A SETHA member in the 23000 Block of Huber Avenue (Walnut St) reported that their   heavy front door mat was flipped over and moved.  It happened  between   8 PM and 7 AM this morning.  They do not hide a key under the mat.   Every burglar knows to look on the top door-sill, anywhere in the porch light, in the mailbox, under the doormat, in the potted plant, in the plastic fake rock near the entrance, in the magnetic key holder attached to anything metal, etc. You get the idea… anywhere near the front door will be obvious places for a potential burglar to quickly look. Just don’t do it. Here are some additional reminders about residential burglaries from the Torrance Police Department. WHAT TO LOOK FOR: Strangers (and in some cases solicitors) knocking on doors to see if anyone is home. When there is no answer, they walk to the back of the residence and break in. Multiple suspects. Some may even be female or high school age. Other suspects
