Commission Appointments Open To Torrance Residents

The Torrance City Council will be appointing residents to various Commissions this month and in December. Rebecca Poirier, our City Clerk, has sent the following information for those of you who might be interested in being appointed. John Bailey, President Southeast Torrance Homeowner's Association, Inc. setha-torrance.blogspot.com Commission appointments will be held over three City Council meetings. They will be handled in the same manner as the Planning Commission appointments which took place on June 16, 2020. A picture will be shown on the screen and the applicant has three minutes to introduce themselves. All applicants must have completed Commission Certification Training prior to applying. If any resident is interested in taking the Commission Certification Training, we are offering it online by request only. Please email CityClerk@TorranceCA.gov. Applications for all vacancies and reappointments are due in the City Clerk’s Office on Thursday, November 12 by Noon. Postmarks are not accepted. There are three ways to turn in an application: Due to COVID-19, we are accepting scanned applications (must include a signature on the scan), via U.S. Mail, or hand carried to the City Clerk’s Office (we are one of two offices open to the public). The most current vacancy list is attached. The schedule for City Council meeting appointments is as follows: November 17: Planning – one unscheduled vacancy Airport – one incumbent eligible for reappointment; one vacancy Civil Service – one incumbent eligible for reappointment; one vacancy Commission on Aging – two vacancies December 1: Cultural Arts – one incumbent eligible for reappointment; one vacancy Environmental/Energy – one incumbent eligible for reappointment Historic Preservation – one incumbent eligible for reappointment Library – one incumbent eligible for reappointment December 8: Social Services – two incumbents eligible for reappointment; two vacancies Traffic - two incumbents eligible for reappointment Water – one incumbent eligible for reappointment; one vacancy Thank you for your assistance is getting the word out. Southeast Torrance 7 12 5PM 2400 Block 235th Place Suspect entered open garage, entered residence via open access door, fled when resident yelled at him. No property loss Old Torrance 7 12 1AM 800 Block Portola Ave Suspected entered residence via unlocked door and fled when victim woke up in the bedroom. Hillside 7 16 2:44AM 2500 Ridgeland Rd Glass Panel removed to unlock door for entry, Suspects fled when victim awoke, screamed and chased them out of the residence.
