MEETING ON 65 FOOT CELL PHONE TOWER AT SUR LA BREA PARK AND MORE

SUR LA BREA PARK
The City of Torrance Telecommunications Committee will hold a meeting on Tuesday, February 10, 2015 at 9 AM
in the West Annex Commission Meeting Room, City Hall Complex, 3031 Torrance Blvd on the Verizon Wireless
proposal to allow the installation and operation of a 65-foot tall telecommunications facility with 12 antennas
and the installation of associated equipment at Sur La Brea Park.

If I recall correctly, the last public meeting was on March 13, 2013 when the project was discussed and approved by the Parks
and Recreation Commission.

The proposed telecommunications facility will be located within an existing sloped planter directly northeast of the existing
tennis courts.  The proposed facility will consist of 12 antennas and 6 RRU’s mounted on a false mono-eucalyptus tree that
is 65 feet in height and its associated equipment cabinets located within a new recessed equipment enclosure.

Verizon is proposing to install three sectors with 4 panel antennas and 2 RRU’s each, centered at 57 feet high.  Sector One will
face north, Sector Two southeast and Sector Three southwest.  Verizon is proposing to install related equipment within a new
recessed equipment enclosure just east of the 65 foot false tree.  The enclosure totals 542 square feet (14 feet by 39 feet) and
will house various equipment cabinets, a fixed generator, and 3 GPS antennas.  The enclosure scales to 5 feet in height above
the tennis court grade.

Verizon has indicated the proposed site is intended to enhance coverage in the areas around the park as shown in the coverage
maps submitted with their application.

I noticed in the LA Times today that American Tower Corp. will pay $5.06 billion to lease 11,300 wireless towers and buy 165
towers from Verizon.  For the towers it is leasing, it will be able to operate them for an average term of 28 years, with an option
to buy.  The deal is expected to close during the first half of 2015.

If you have any questions about the project, please send an email to SoutheastTorranceHOA@yahoo.com.

ROBINSON HELICOPTER
Robinson production dropped by 37% in 2014.  Robinson Helicopter’s production for 2014 was 329 helicopters, a huge 37% drop
compared to 2013’s production of 523.  42 R22s, 186 R44s, and 101 R66s were manufactured in 2014.  Looking at each model,
the R22 production was level, the R44 down 36% and the R66 down 47%.
