Proposed 65 foot Cell Phone Tower at Sur La Brea Park

Several SETHA residents have received the following notice on the proposed 65 foot cell phone tower
at Sur La Brea Park.

"Verizon Wireless continues to work with the City on a proposed lease for a cellular site at Sur La Brea Park.  No lease has been signed as of this time and any such lease would require a public meeting and review by the City Council.
Several months have passed since the initial proposal for the Sur La Brea site and Verizon has requested to to a site assessment prior to determining whether they wish to further pursue a lease.  Verizon will be bring a drilling truck on the property to take core samples; the actual sampling should not take more than 1 hour.
The purpose of this notice is to make sure that area residents are aware of the activity"

Additional information on the proposed tower.
On May 8, 2013, the Torrance Parks and Recreation Commission approved the location of the 65 foot tower on the slope south of the La Casita clubhouse.  That slope area is non-usable space and would not impact any active or passive recreational space.  At least 50% of the equipment storage facility would be subterranean.  A recommendation was also made to the City Council that the first five years of revenue would be dedicated for Sur La Brea Park improvements.  At one of the cell phone tower meetings, Community Services Director John Jones estimated that the list of items for repair/rework/replacement  submitted by SETHA would be approximately $150,000.

The proposal for the 65 foot cell phone tower still has to be reviewed by the City of Torrance Telecommunications Committee and the City Council.

John Bailey,
President
