Residential Burglary in Southeast Torrance

A SETHA member has reported there was a residential burglary during the day on Thursday, December 19th in the 2100 Block of 235th Place.  This is between Cabrillo and Arlington.   A sliding glass door in the rear of the house was broken for entry.  No additional information is available.   PLEASE CONTACT THE TORRANCE POLICE DEPARTMENT AT * * 310.328.3456 * * IF YOU HAVE ANY INFORMATION ON THIS BURGLARY.   Don’t be hesitate to report suspicious activity in you neighborhood. Torrance Police Seeking Two Suspects in North Torrance Residential Burglary

On Tuesday, November 26, 2013, between 6:06pm and 6:22pm , two suspects forcibly entered the victim’s residence in the 18700 block of Florwood Avenue, east of Columbia Park,  by breaking a window and reaching in to unlock the door. The suspects ransacked the residence and removed property. Five crimes have been reported since September in the city, including one on Monday in the 4900 block of Newton Street. “We might be looking at a couple crews here on this,” Torrance police Sgt. Robert Watt said. On Monday, an elderly couple told police a man approached their home and said he was going to be working on the water system on a hill that backed up to their house. October 29 Early AM Crash at Crenshaw and Skypark

Torrance morning crash kills driver, closes Crenshaw Blvd., Skypark Drive By Larry Altman , Daily Breeze Posted: 10/29/13, 6:57 AM PDT | Updated: 24 secs ago A motorist was killed early Tuesday morning when he crashed into a light pole in Torrance, police said. The investigation forced the closure of the southbound lanes of Crenshaw Boulevard near Skypark Drive. Police said the driver was south on Crenshaw at 4:10 a.m. when his car left the roadway, hit a light pole and struck a tree on the sidewalk. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Crenshaw remained closed through the morning commute.  

Torrance Police Dept Bulletin on Auto Burglaries

Since July 24, 2013, there have been 11 related auto burglaries wherein the suspect smashes the windows of SUVs parked at locations on  where women are likely to leave their purses in their vehicles while exercising on weekdays (a.m. and p.m.). The suspect(s) targets vehicles parked on the second level of the parking structure at 24-HR FITNESS, 2685 Pacific Coast Hwy and the northwest parking lot at WILSON PARK, 2200 Crenshaw and takes the victims’ purses. The pictured suspect has been captured on video using victims’ credit cards.  

Del Amo Fashion Center

On Sunday, November 3rd , nearly two-dozen air conditioning units will be lifted to the roof of the Del Amo Fashion Center by helicopter from 7:00 AM to Noon.  Carson Street between Madrona Avenue and Hawthorne Blvd will be closed from 5:00 AM to Noon.   On Tuesday, November 6th , the Torrance Planning Commission, will consider a modification of a  previously approved permit at the Del Amo Mall .  The Macy’s Home/JoAnn’s building will have the gross leasable area reduced from 220,000 square feet to 155,000 square feet and will be converted to a multi-tenant building with approximately 105,000 square feet of multi-tenant retail and 50,000 square feet of professional offices.  65,000 square feet from the Macy’s Home/JoAnn’s building will re-allocated to the mall north of Carson Street.   John Bailey, President SETHA

September 7th and 8th Road Construction at Crenshaw Blvd and Lomita Blvd

On Saturday Sept. 7 at 7PM , the cities of Torrance and Lomita will begin pavement repairs in the Crenshaw Blvd/Lomita Blvd intersection.   Work will continue overnight into Sunday until approximately 6PM.     The work requires a closure of eastbound and westbound Lomita Blvd at Crenshaw Blvd.  Multiple travel and turn lanes on Crenshaw Blvd will be closed. Travel delays are expected.  Traffic impacts are as follows:   Crenshaw Blvd (both directions): Will be reduced to 1 travel lane in each direction.  Left and right turn lanes will be closed and left/right turn movements onto Lomita Blvd will be prohibited. Lomita Blvd (eastbound at intersection): Will be closed to all traffic for the entire duration of work.  Eastbound traffic will be detoured onto Garnier St south to Skypark Dr.  Local access will be provided up to the Crossroads driveway, west of the intersection. Lomita Blvd (westbound at intersection): Will be closed to all traffic for the entire duration of work.

Crenshaw Blvd and Lomita Blvd Construction Project

       The Crenshaw Blvd and Lomita Blvd Street Improvement Project will entail construction of new pavement, minor concrete, traffic signal modification and striping.   Lomita Blvd will be resurfaced from Crenshaw Blvd to Narbonne Avenue.  Crenshaw Blvd will be resurfaced to the north and south of the Lomita Blvd intersection.   Starting on August 5, 2013, the contractor will be working from 8AM to 4PM, Monday through Friday with some weekend activity as needed.  It is anticipated that all work will be completed by the end of September. Access will be maintained to private property at all times during construction.   Your cooperation in observing all traffic control, parking restrictions and flagmen will be appreciated.

Parking Lot Robbery at Crossroads Shopping Center

    DETAILS: On Saturday, June 15, 2013 between 5:35 and 5:48 p.m., the victim was inside VONS, 24325 Crenshaw purchasing food at the deli counter when she observed the pictured suspect in the attachment following her. After paying and receiving $20 cash back from the transaction, the victim exited the location and noticed the suspect was still following her. The suspect then walked in front of the victim, blocked her path - the bill of his hat covered most of his face and he had one hand in his pocket, simulating a weapon - and stated, "Give me the twenty-dollar bill you just pulled off of your card." Out of fear, the victim retrieved the twenty-dollar bill and handed it to the suspect who turned and ran west through the lot toward SAM'S CLUB, 2601 Skypark.     SUSPECT DESCRIPTION: Hispanic male adult in his 20s, wearing a black hat with yellow bill, a black hoodie (hood worn up and over cap), black jeans and black PUMA shoes.

      West Nile Virus Weekly Public Health Update & Advisory   June 20, 2013   New WNV Positives found in Lomita, Rolling Hills Estates, Rancho Palos Verdes, and Torrance   This is the first 2013 weekly West Nile virus (WNV) public health update and advisory for all cities and areas within the Los Angeles County West Vector & Vector-Borne Disease Control District.   Several dead American crows tested positive for WNV in the City of Lomita (5), Rolling Hills Estates (3) and Rancho Palos Verdes (1).   Additionally, mosquitoes caught in an adult trap at the Exxon/Mobil in Torrance also tested positive (1).   What does it mean?   There were 479 human cases and 19 deaths in 31 counties throughout California for 2012.   These were the highest numbers recorded since 2005 when 805 human cases and 19 deaths were recorded. This report is for Sunday, May 19th, 2013 through Saturday, May 25, 2013.   RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY           None reported during the reporting period.  However, an attempted residential burglary  was reported by several SETHA members on Tuesday, May 28th, in the 2000 block of 236th St (Cabrillo-Arlington).  This was an evening incident.   An attempted residential burglary occurred on Sunday, May 19th at 1:45PM in the 6500 Block of Certa Drive in Rancho Palos Verdes.  The rear sliding glass door was shattered. Suspect 1:  MB/20-25/160LBS/BLK HAIR Suspect 2:  MB/20-25/ Suspect 1 knocked several times at the front door.  Victim was home and didn’t recognize Suspect 1 and didn’t answer the door. VANDALISM  Thursday, April 11th, 11AM Sur La Brea Park Restroom Suspect(s) tagged restroom interior. THEFT Wednesday, Aril 10th, 6:45AM to 1PM 235th and Crenshaw Suspect(s) entered business and took property from locker in employee room including wallet, iPod and sunglasses.

    This Saturday, the City is hosting an Earth Day Event .  The day will include free paper shredding, mulch give-away , and . . . recycling drop off for electronics, clothing, shoes used oil and filters .
