Vandalism at the new J. H. Hull Middle School

 Vandalism occurred at the new Hull Middle School over the break for Thanksgiving.  Eight windows were broken on the south and west sides of the gym.   Graffitti on the gym door on the north side of the building.  Graffitti on the marquee sign and on the cement bases of the light fixtures.  If you have any information, please contact the Torrance Police Department and the  Principal at Hull Middle School.  John Bailey, President  SETHA

Residential Burglary in Southeast Torrance

On Friday, September 30, 2011, at 10:30AM a blue sedan with a male black driver, short cropped hair was observed parked on the north side of 234th Street near Walnut.  The suspect entered a side yard of a residence but left rather quickly.  He may have been confronted by one of the dogs in the yard. Shortly thereafter, a blue sedan with a male meeting the same description was observed on the north side of the 1900 block of 235th Street near Walnut.  A residential burglary occurred in one of the homes yesterday on that block. This information is from residents in the area.  If you were in the area yesterday morning and saw a vehicle or suspect matching the above description, please call the Torrance Police Department. Torrance Blvd Lane Closure Saturday July 9, 2011

  WESTBOUND Torrance Blvd ., between Western Avenue and Sartori Avenue, will be CLOSED on Saturday, July 9th , beginning at 7:00 AM and reopening to traffic at 7:00 PM . This closure is necessary in order to perform the slurry seal operations adjacent to the bridge due to the restricted roadway width in this area. Traffic Impacts from 7AM through 7PM Saturday, July 9th: Westbound Torrance Blvd, will be CLOSED between Sartori Avenue and Western Avenue Cabrillo Avenue and Van Ness Avenue will be down to one lane in both directions at the intersection with Torrance Blvd. Right turns will be prohibited for southbound traffic on Van Ness Avenue to Torrance Blvd. Left turns will be prohibited for northbound traffic on Cabrillo Avenue to Torrance Blvd. Detours will be set up to redirect westbound through traffic off of Torrance Blvd. onto Carson Street via Western Avenue. 4th Annual Southeast Torrance Neighborhood Garage Sale

Torrance Armed Forces Day Parade

On Saturday, May 21st at 1:30 PM , the City of Torrance will continue the tradition of hosting the Armed Forces Day Parade , as it has done for the past 52 years ! Torrance has proudly honored the men and women in the United States Military with the annual Armed Forces Day Parade and celebration -- our parade has the distinction of being the longest-running military parade in the nation! Each year the parade honors a specific branch of the Armed Forces -- this year we'll pay tribute to the United States Army . Grand Marshal, General Robert W. Cone, will lead over 50 entries, which will include the military personnel, equipment, veterans, and local bands. The parade will start at Crenshaw Blvd., head westbound on Torrance Blvd. and end at Madrona Ave. Just so you know, all streets intersecting the parade route will be closed to through traffic for most of the day. Torrance Blvd Lane Closure

 Torrance Boulevard Lane Closure at Van Ness Avenue (May 16 - May 20, 2011)  Monday, May 16, 2011 at 7:00 a.m. until Friday, May 20, 2011 at 4:00 p.m., the left turn lane from eastbound Torrance Boulevard to northbound Van Ness Avenue will be closed to allow for the removal of the center median located on the west side of the intersection.  Motorists who normally utilize this left turn lane will be diverted to Western Avenue with a message board sign located on Torrance Boulevard at Madrid Avenue. Calls may be directed to Public Works at (310) 781-6900 if further information is needed.

T-Mobile Cell Phone Tower Proposed for Sur La Brea Park

The Torrance City Council will meet on Tuesday, April 19th, in closed session for the following purpose: REAL PROPERTY-CONFERENCE WITH REAL PROPERTY NEGOTIATOR Property: SurLaBrea Park, 23610 Cabrillo Avenue Agency Negotiator: LeRoy J. Jackson, City Manager Negotiating Parties: City of Torrance and Maryann Harwood, Reliant Land Services Inc. for T-Mobile Under Negotiations: Terms and conditions of lease SETHA has not been notified by the City of Torrance that a cell phone tower is being proposed by T-Mobile for Sur La Brea Park. We will be watching this very closely because the City of Torrance previously approved a T-Mobile cell phone tower in West Torrance which was adjacent to residential homes. After public outcry, T-Mobile moved the location under the power lines running parallel to 190th Street.
