Road Construction at Sepulveda Blvd and Maple Will Impact Traffic

Traffic Impacts - Maple Ave. and Sepulveda Blvd. Crimson pipeline will close multiple lanes on Maple Ave. and Sepulveda Blvd. at the intersection of Maple Ave. and Sepulveda. The work will start on 11/30/2020 and is proposed to be completed by 1/29/2021. Phase 1 Construction (11/30/2020 - 1/4/2021) Northbound Maple Ave. - Northbound Maple Ave. will be completely closed just north of Sepulveda Blvd. Motorists will be directed to turn either left or right onto Sepulveda Blvd. and will be led with detour signs back onto Maple Ave. Eastbound Sepulveda Blvd. - Left turn lanes will be completely closed at the intersection of Maple Ave. and Sepulveda Blvd. Left turn and u-turn will not be allowed at Maple Ave. during Phase 1 construction. There are 47 incidents in the Torrance Police Department Weekly Crime Log at: https://www.torranceca.gov/home/showpublisheddocument?id=62394 RESIDENTIAL BURGLARIES There were 2 in Torrance, both were houses being fumigated. 11/8-11/9 21800 Block Marjorie Ave – Southwood 11/9 23900 Block Huber Ave - Southeast Torrance AUTO BURGLARIES There were 17 in Torrance and none in Southeast Torrance. 10 vehicles were unlocked and windows smashed in 3 vehicles for entry. Items stolen included a backpack, laptop, eye glasses, checkbooks, parking pass, guitar, golf clubs, electric cart, cash, masks, MP3, credit cards, SS card, purse, sunglasses, tools, camera, clothes, cash, CDs, more sunglasses, more clothes, registration, bucket, tool bag, power and hand tools. This report is for Sunday, November 1, 2020 through Saturday, November 7, 2020. 39 incidents in the Torrance Police Department Weekly Crime Log at: https://www.torranceca.gov/home/showdocument?id=62360 RESIDENTIAL BURGLARIES There were 3 in Torrance. 2 in the Riviera and 1 in Marble Estates. In the Marble Estates burglary, suspect entered an unlocked vehicle parked inside the garage, took property and stole a key to steal another vehicle, a 2013 Chev Malibu. AUTO BURGLARIES There were 13 in Torrance and none in Southeast Torrance. 4 vehicles were unlocked and windows smashed in 3 vehicles for entry. Road Construction on Hawthorne Blvd #4 Traffic Lane Will Be Impacted

The #4 traffic lane will be closed for road work. Be prepared for traffic impacts. Hawthorne Blvd. Lane Closures Post Date:11/16/2020 12:57 PM Caltrans is working on a project to improve Hawthorne Blvd from Redondo Beach Blvd (RBB) to Pacific Coast Highway (PCH). Improvements will include curb ramps, bus pads, and traffic signal improvements from RBB to PCH and pavement resurfacing from Fashion Way to RBB. Weekly Crime Report and Police Chief Retiring

The Weekly Crime Report for November 1, 2020 through November 7, 2020 has not been released. Torrance Police Chief Eve Berg has announced that she will be retiring from her position as Police Chief effective Jan. 8, 2021. Chief Berg began her law enforcement career with the Inglewood PD in 1984 after graduating from the LASD Academy. She was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 1994; to rank of Lieutenant in 1999 and in 2003 the rank of Captain. In 2011, she was appointed Chief of Police for the Manhattan Beach Police Department and served in the capacity until appointed in January, 2018 as the Torrance Police Department's Chief of Police. The Lundquist Institute at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center Administers First Phase 3 AstraZeneca Trial Injection Friday, September 4, 2020 Investigator(s) Eric Daar, MD LOS ANGELES – The Lundquist Institute at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center officially began phase 3 trials of the Oxford University – AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine trial on Friday, September 4. The vaccine is called AZD1222 and has already gone through early trials. This trial is designed to determine whether the vaccine can prevent symptomatic COVID-19 after two doses. The study aims to enroll 30,000 volunteers across the United States. It is important to note that this vaccine does not have a live virus and cannot give a person COVID-19. If the results from the trial are positive, the vaccine could be made available to the public to prevent disease. Commission Appointments Open To Torrance Residents

The Torrance City Council will be appointing residents to various Commissions this month and in December. Rebecca Poirier, our City Clerk, has sent the following information for those of you who might be interested in being appointed. They will be handled in the same manner as the Planning Commission appointments which took place on June 16, 2020. A picture will be shown on the screen and the applicant has three minutes to introduce themselves. All applicants must have completed Commission Certification Training prior to applying. If any resident is interested in taking the Commission Certification Training, we are offering it online by request only. Please email CityClerk@TorranceCA.gov.
