Lt Jeremiah Hart promoted to Torrance Police Chief effective June 20, 2021

 I am pleased to announce the appointment of Jeremiah Hart to the position of Chief of Police effective June 20, 2021 at the conclusion of Jon Megeff’s term as Interim Chief. Incoming Chief Hart began his career in Law Enforcement as a Patrol Officer with the City of Pasadena from 1998 to 2001. He was hired by the Torrance Police Department in 2001, and served in various assignments including Patrol Officer, Motor Officer, Recruitment Training Officer, and Patrol Field Supervisor. Jay was promoted to Sergeant (2008-2015), where he oversaw research and training, served as the Chief’s Adjutant/Public Information Officer, and as Personnel Sergeant. When appointed Lieutenant (2015-present), Jay served as Watch Commander, supervised the Traffic and Special Events Division, and managed the Communications/Information Technology Division. Collateral assignments as a Lieutenant included SWAT and UAS Commander, Arrest and Control/Use of Force/Firearms and Field Tactics Training Cadre.

AUTO BURGLARIES There were 7 in Torrance and none in Southeast Torrance. 3 vehicles were unlocked/unsecured and windows smashed for entry in 2 windows. AUTO THEFT There were 11 vehicles stolen in Torrance and none in Southeast Torrance. 8 of the 11 were SUV's or pickups.
