Weekly Crime Report for Southeast Torrance

This report is for Sunday, April 16, 2017 through Saturday, April 22, 2017. There were 60 incidents reported.   RESIDENTIAL BURGLARIES There were 8 in Torrance and 1 in Southeast Torrance. Tuesday, April 18th, 9:25 AM  23000 Block Andreo AV (North of Hull MS) Suspect rang doorbell, was observed looking in window by victim and pushes door knob.  Suspect flees when the victim’s neighbor responds to the attempted entry.  No entry, no loss. There were 2 burglaries in North Torrance and 1 each in West, Walteria, Palo del Amo, Delthorne and Old Torrance.   AUTO BURGLARIES There were 11 in Torrance and none in Southeast Torrance. Third row seats were taken from two vehicles in North Torrance. Two vehicles in the 4400 Block of Pacific Coast Highway were entered via unknown means and a bicycle, sunglasses, keys, screw gun, vacuum, sawzall, hammer, drill, batteries, chargers, voltage reader and hand tools were stolen.   AUTO THEFT There were 13 veh

Results of AQMD Hearing, April 26, 2017 on Petition for Variance by Torrance Refining

  SCAQMD Hearing Board   New On Wednesday, April 26, the SCAQMD Hearing board denied in part, and granted in part, a petition for variance (PDF) by Torrance Refining Company for a short variance to perform maintenance and repairs of equipment at the refinery. The Hearing Board approved on a 4-1 vote, with Senator Holden voting no. The Hearing Board: Granted variance to allow Torrance refinery to take the fourth stage separator cyclone out of service to replace cracked piping. Variance is for 10 non-consecutive days from May 1 through May 30. Granted variance to allow Torrance refinery to isolate Flare 65F-4 to perform maintenance. Variance is for 30 non-consecutive days from April 29 through July 1.     By Staff and wire reports POSTED:  04/23/17, 10:51 AM PDT   |   UPDATED: 30 SECS AGO 0 COMMENTS Firefighters are battling a three-alarm fire at a commercial building in the 22800 block of Hawthorne Boulevard in Torrance. One nearby business was evacuated, Fire Department Capt. Robert Millea told City News Service. Hawthorne Boulevard is closed between 226th Street and Lomita Boulevard as firefighters work to contain the blaze. A  Facebook Live video  posted by the City of Torrance Fire Department showed fire damage to Kid Concepts U.S.A. The fire captain who hosted the live video said part of the roof above Kid Concepts collapsed and that nearby Centinela Feed & Pet Supplies was filled with smoke. Weekly Crime Report for Southeast Torrance April 9 through 15, 2017

  This report is for Sunday, April 9, 2017 through Saturday, April 15, 2017. There were 57 incidents reported during the week.   RESIDENTIAL BURGLARIES There were 5 in Torrance and none in Southeast Torrance. 3 in North Torrance, 1 in Olde Torrance and 1 in the Hillside area.   There was an attempted residential break-in at an occupied residential home in the area of 230th and Andreo on Tuesday, April 18th at 9:25 AM.   This area is north of Hull Middle School.  The suspect described as an African-American, male, early 20’s, left the scene in a white Toyota Prius when confronted.   AUTO BURGLARIES There were 11 in Torrance and 1 in Southeast Torrance. Tuesday, April 11th  1 AM to 11 AM  2300 Block 231st St Suspect punched door lock and took stereo.   Items stolen this week from vehicles included tote, registration, insurance, computer monitor, folder, jackets, pet pug, stereo, cell phone, key, cash, MP3, GPS, purse, sunglasses and hat.   AUTO T

 This report is for Sunday, April 2nd through Saturday, April 8, 2017. 51 incidents were reported during this period in the City of Torrance.   RESIDENTIAL BURGLARIES There were 2 in Torrance and none in Southeast Torrance. 1 each in Southwood-Sunray and Southwood-Riviera.   AUTO BURGLARIES There were 16 in Torrance and none in Southeast Torrance. 2 vehicles were unlocked and windows were smashed for entry in 5 vehicles,. Items stolen included tool box, tools, tablet, keys, third row seat, credit cards, drivers license, social security cards, bag, laptops, watch, notebooks, paperwork, credit cards, sunglasses, navigation screen, stereo, financial documents, registration, insurance papers, memory cards, purses, cash, headphones, duffel bag, gym bag, gym clothes, luggage, shoes, and clothes.   AUTO THEFT There were 12 in Torrance and 2 in Southeast Torrance.  April 8, 2017  11:15PM             2100 Block 231st Street  2012 Ford F150 Silver Rapt

Update on the United States Chemical Safety Board (CSB) Meeting in Washington DC on the ExxonMobil Explosion

  A press conference will be held in Torrance on Wednesday, May 3, 2017, concerning the final report on the ExxonMobil refinery accident of February 2015. The location of the conference in Torrance has not been determined. ExxonMobil was served with five subpoenas by the CSB. The CSB received responses to three subpoenas but the two on MHF and HF were not answered. That part of their investigation is still ongoing. Truck Stolen in Southeast Torrance Saturday Night April 8, 2017

A 2002 Ford Raptor pickup truck, silver in color, CA personalized  License Plate  JJRaptor was stolen on Saturday night, April 8, 2017 from the 23100 Block of Andreo in Southeast Torrance.  The truck has a Ford racing side exhaust which has a distinct sound.   It was taken about 11:15 PM and the truck was last seen going east on 231st Street to Cabrillo Avenue.  Andreo is the north/south street cul-de-sac across from Hull Middle School.  The vehicle was locked.   Please contact the Torrance Police Department at 310 328 3456 if you have any information.   John Bailey, President Southeast Torrance Homeowners’ Association, Inc.   This report is for Sunday, March 26, 2017 through Saturday, April 1, 2017. There were 60 incidents logged during the reporting period.   RESIDENTIAL BURGLARIES There were 7 in Torrance and none in Southeast Torrance. 6 were in North Torrance and 1 in the Victor Park area in West Torrance.   AUTO BURGLARIES There were 14 in Torrance and none in Southeast Torrance. 4 vehicles were unlocked and windows were smashed in 6 vehicles to gain entry.   AUTO THEFT There were 9 vehicles and 1 trailer stolen but none in Southeast Torrance.    VANDALISM There were 7 incidents in Torrance and 1 in Southeast Torrance. Crenshaw Blvd Construction Project Update

Tuesday, April 4, 2017 Southbound lane closures on Crenshaw Blvd from 235th Street to Skypark Drive.   Wednesday, April 5, 2017 through Friday, April 7, 2017   Northbound lane closures on Crenshaw Blvd from 235th Street to Sepulveda Blvd    due to asphalt grinding and paving operations.   Saturday, April 8, 2017 One northbound lane and one southbound lane adjacent to the center median will be closed from 9 AM to 3:30 PM for median work on Crenshaw Blvd south of Pacific Coast Highway to the city limits.   Alternate routes are strongly recommended.  Allow extra time as the side streets such as Pennsylvania Avenue, north and south, are being impacted.   If you have any questions, please contact the Torrance Public Works Department at 310-781-6900.   John Bailey, President Southeast Torrance Homeowners’ Association, Inc.(SETHA)
