Torrance Police Arrest Suspect in Sam's Club Parking Lot Thefts

Community: Theft Suspect Arrested

This past weekend, on Saturday and Sunday mornings, Torrance Police Patrol Officers responded to Sam’s Club located at 2601 Skypark regarding thefts from vehicles. The first theft occurred at approximately 9:45 AM, when the victim’s wallet was stolen from her car after she momentarily walked away to return a shopping cart. The second theft occurred the next day at approximately 10:30 AM when a victim’s purse was stolen from the front seat of her car while she was loading groceries. Victims and witnesses from these incidents were able to provide descriptions of both the suspect and his vehicle.
 
Upon responding to the theft on Sunday morning, Patrol Officers immediately located the suspect vehicle. The suspect failed to initially yield and led pursuing Officers on a vehicle chase. The pursuit ended after the suspect collided into a parking pole at the New Casa Motel located at 7720 Main Street in the City of Los Angeles. The suspect was not injured.

During the investigation, Officers recovered numerous items of stolen property to include wallets and purses from other victims. Today, Torrance Police Detectives filed (3) three counts of Grand Theft, Evading, Hit & Run and Receiving Stolen Property.

The Torrance Police Department continues to encourage the community to be vigilant of any criminal activity. “See Something, Say Something”.

This investigation is being conducted under the command of Torrance Police Captain Mark Underwood of the Special Operations Bureau. Southeast Torrance 7 12 5PM 2400 Block 235th Place Suspect entered open garage, entered residence via open access door, fled when resident yelled at him. No property loss Old Torrance 7 12 1AM 800 Block Portola Ave Suspected entered residence via unlocked door and fled when victim woke up in the bedroom. Hillside 7 16 2:44AM 2500 Ridgeland Rd Glass Panel removed to unlock door for entry, Suspects fled when victim awoke, screamed and chased them out of the residence.
