One man was killed and a second hospitalized after a shooting in Lomita early Wednesday morning, July 17, authorities said.
The shooting occurred about 2:30 a.m. in the 24000 block of Pennsylvania Avenue near the city’s border with Torrance, said sheriff’s Deputy Juanita Navarro-Suarez.
Deputies found a man with at least one gunshot wound to his upper torso who was pronounced dead at the scene, Navarro-Suarez said. The second victim had a gunshot wound to his lower torso and was taken to a hospital, where he was in fair condition.
There were others inside the home at the time of the shooting and had yet to be questioned. The relationship between the two men was not known, and detectives aren’t yet sure if the incident was gang-related, Navarro-Suarez said.
A gun was found at the scene.
Deputies did not say if suspects were outstanding.
The Sheriff’s Department asked that anyone with information about the shooting call them at 323-890-5500. Anonymous tips can be made by calling LA Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
