AQMD Torrance Air Quality Monitoring Project Launching in August 2019

The  Torrance Air Quality Monitoring Project, sponsored by the South Coast Air Quality Management District (AQMD) is officially launching this month.

The Torrance Air project, sponsored by South Coast AQMD, is now monitoring a range of air pollutants across the city of Torrance.
Information about local air quality will soon be available to residents online!

What information will be available on the Torrance Air website?
The website will soon be providing public, near-real time air quality information gathered from three community monitoring sites throughout the city of Torrance.
These sites are located at:
  • North Torrance High School
  • West Torrance High School
  • Elm Avenue: 1001 Elm Avenue
  • A fourth community monitoring site located at Guenser Park is also planned for future installation.

How can you help spread the word?
  • Share the Torrance Air website (www.torranceair.org), with your family and friends, where they can enter an email address and be updated when the website officially launches.
     

What information about Torrance Air can you expect to start seeing?
  • Printed inserts in your utility bill, explaining the details of the project
  • Digital billboards, at City Hall and Wilson Park, announcing the launch of the project
  • Ads in Torrance Seasons quarterly magazines
  • Banner images on the City of Torrance’s homepage
  • Social images shared on the City of Torrance’s Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram
  • Announcements on the local Torrance TV channel
  • Articles and media mentions in local news outlets

What’s next?
  • Outreach materials will be distributed to local residents directly, as well as through the Torrance library, City Council, and city representatives.
  • The air quality monitoring devices located on the Torrance Refinery’s north fenceline will soon be operational and also collecting air quality data, which will be displayed on the Torrance Air site
  • Small, portable sensors will be distributed to Torrance residents to help measure concentrations of particulate matter throughout the community
