Inmate Got Out of Lomita sheriff's station

Inmate hops fence at Lomita sheriff’s station and is found in Jacuzzi

By City News Service
An inmate working at the sheriff’s Lomita station jumped a fence and tried to escape Sunday afternoon, but was found a couple hours later hiding in a covered Jacuzzi in a nearby backyard, authorities said.
The inmate, who is about 23 years old, was in a back parking lot at the station at 26123 Narbonne Ave. about 2:30 p.m. when he “decided he no longer wanted to be incarcerated with us and took off over the west wall,” said sheriff’s Sgt. Paul Creason.
“The jailer actually saw him run,” Creason said, noting that the man was wearing a yellow jumpsuit and blue jacket. “We immediately had our field units set up containment on Lucille Avenue and Cypress Street south of Pacific Coast Highway.”

A helicopter and police dog unit were called in and the man was found about 5 p.m., Creason said.
The Jacuzzi had just a little bit of water in the bottom, the sergeant said.
The man had been jailed for burglary and now faces likely escape charges, Creason said.
He was working at the station under minimum security as part of a program that employs inmates who meet certain criteria, Creason said.
