Caltrans' SR-107 Multimodal Improvement Project
Post Date:07/12/2020
The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) announces
the commencement of a multimodal improvement project on State Route 107
(Hawthorne Boulevard) in the City of Torrance due to funds from Senate Bill 1
(SB 1), the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017.
The
construction phase is scheduled to begin Monday, July 13, 2020, and be completed
in spring 2021. Construction
will occur during the evening. Residents and local businesses
should expect road closures and noise during construction, bus services may be
affected.
Weekend construction will consist of
reconstructing bus pads. Two lanes of Hawthorne Boulevard will be closed from
Del Amo Boulevard to Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) between Friday at 8 p.m.
through Saturday at 11:59 p.m. This work will occur consecutively for
approximately 11 weekends.
Weekday construction will consist of upgrading
curb ramps to Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA) standards. Curb ramp
work will take place Monday through Thursday, 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., with only one
lane closed to motorists.
The paving operation is scheduled to start in September and finish
in October. Followed by electrical work in October and striping in November. The
construction timeline is subject to change due to weather or operational
reasons.
SB 1 provides an ongoing funding increase of approximately $1.8
billion annually for the maintenance and rehabilitation of the state highway
system. SB 1 funds will enable Caltrans to fix more than 17,000 lane miles of
pavement, 500 bridges and 55,000 culverts by 2027.
Caltrans reminds drivers to be “Work Zone Alert” and to “Slow for
the Cone Zone.”
