Three Hawthorne residents were arrested this week on suspicion of stealing
money from vehicles after flattening their tires, Torrance police said
Thursday, Feb. 28.
Omar Baltazar, 39, Monica Diaz-Sanchez, 39 and Sandra Baltazar-Diaz, 18,
were arrested in Hawthorne Monday, Feb. 25, Torrance police Sgt. Ronald
Harris said.
Investigators recovered $80,000 they believed to be stolen, Harris said.
Torrance detectives investigated two mid-February incidents in which the
suspects allegedly followed the victims from banks, distracted them while
flattening a tire and then stole money from the vehicle, Harris said.
The three suspects were charged Wednesday by the Los Angeles County District
Attorney’s Office with crimes committed in Torrance, Manhattan Beach, El
Segundo, Beverly Hills, Pasadena, Glendale and Los Angeles, Harris said.
Torrance police collaborated with the Glendale Police Department and other
South Bay police agencies to identify the suspects.
Detectives believe the trio may be involved in similar crimes on the East
Coast, Harris said.
Baltazar and Diaz-Sanchez were being held in jail on $500,000 bail each,
according to jail records. Holding information on Baltazar-Diaz was not
immediately available.
