 This report is for Sunday, February 10, 2019 through Saturday, February 16, 2019.
47 incidents on the Torrance Police Department Weekly Crime Log at:
RESIDENTIAL BURGLARIES
There were 3 in Torrance and none in Southeast Torrance.
2 in North Torrance and 1 in West Torrance. The two in North
Torrance involved taking property out of unlocked garages.
AUTO BURGLARIES
There were 15 in Torrance and none in Southeast Torrance.
9 vehicles were unlocked and windows were smashed in 3 vehicles.
A vehicle parked at 3500 Carson St (Mall) on Sunday, February 10th
at 6:45PM had 3 windows smashed.  Luggage, a backpack, jacket and wallet were stolen.
On Saturday, February 16th, at 2:06PM in the 25300 Block of Crenshaw Blvd, suspects
followed a victim from a bank where he made a withdrawal.  Then the two suspects
slashed his tire, offered to assist him with the tire and followed him to another location
where they forced open the glove compartment of the vehicle and took the cash.
No description of the two suspects.  2 25 19 Added Note - 3 suspects arrested in
the "Flat Tire Ruse"    
 
 


3 arrested on suspicion of stealing money, flattening tires, Torrance police

Three Hawthorne residents were arrested this week on suspicion of stealing 
money from vehicles after flattening their tires, Torrance police said 
Thursday, Feb. 28.

Omar Baltazar, 39, Monica Diaz-Sanchez, 39 and Sandra Baltazar-Diaz, 18, 
were arrested in Hawthorne Monday, Feb. 25, Torrance police Sgt. Ronald 
Harris said.


Investigators recovered $80,000 they believed to be stolen, Harris said.

Torrance detectives investigated two mid-February incidents in which the 
suspects allegedly followed the victims from banks, distracted them while 
flattening a tire and then stole money from the vehicle, Harris said.

The three suspects were charged Wednesday by the Los Angeles County District 
Attorney’s Office with crimes committed in Torrance, Manhattan Beach, El 
Segundo, Beverly Hills, Pasadena, Glendale and Los Angeles, Harris said. 
Torrance police collaborated with the Glendale Police Department and other 
South Bay police agencies to identify the suspects.

Detectives believe the trio may be involved in similar crimes on the East 
Coast, Harris said.

Baltazar and Diaz-Sanchez were being held in jail on $500,000 bail each, 
according to jail records. Holding information on Baltazar-Diaz was not 
immediately available.

AUTO THEFT
There were 2 in Torrance and none in Southeast Torrance.
THEFT
There were 15 reported incidents in Torrance and none in Southeast Torrance.
On Saturday, February 16th, 4-5 PM, in the 2500 block of Pacific Coast Highway, a wallet
was take out of a victim’s purse as she was shopping. 
On Valentine’s Day, 8:50 to 9:18 PM,in the 24300 block of Crenshaw Blvd, a purse was
taken out of a shopping cart as the victim was shopping.
On Monday, February 11th, 3 to 3:30 PM, in the 19700 block of Hawthorne Blvd, a wallet
and keys were taken from victim’s purse as she was shopping.
On Wednesday, February 13th, 11 AM to Noon, a delivered parcel was taken from the
front porch at 22700 block of Maple Avenue.
Catalytic converters were taken from 2 vehicles in North Torrance.

Southeast Torrance 7 12 5PM 2400 Block 235th Place Suspect entered open garage, entered residence via open access door, fled when resident yelled at him. No property loss Old Torrance 7 12 1AM 800 Block Portola Ave Suspected entered residence via unlocked door and fled when victim woke up in the bedroom. Hillside 7 16 2:44AM 2500 Ridgeland Rd Glass Panel removed to unlock door for entry, Suspects fled when victim awoke, screamed and chased them out of the residence. AUTO BURGLARIES There were 5 in Torrance and windows were smashed in 3 vehicles for entry. Items stolen included a wallet, speaker, cash, sunglasses, a key, backpacks, clothes, tablet
