COMMENTS ON AUTO BURGLARY
The Public Policy Institute of California recently reported that prior to passage of Proposition 47, California had an average of 16,000 – 17,000 auto burglaries a month.  After Prop. 47, the number of auto burglaries has gone up to 19,000 to 20,000 auto burglaries a month.
We need to do everything possible to avoid being a target of thieves.  If an auto burglar is caught, you might  have to testify in court that your vehicle was locked when the crime occurred because smashing a window and stealing property from a vehicle can only be charged as a felony burglary if the prosecuting attorney can prove the door was locked.  If they can’t, it is only a misdemeanor.
