The Torrance Unified School District will be holding its “Quarterly Construction Update” meeting on Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at 7 PM at the Torrance City Hall, 3031 Torrance Blvd.   This is a date and location change for this meeting only.   It is expected that the location of the new Aquatic Center will be finalized at this meeting.  There will not be any pre-meetings and it is likely the location will be decided at this meeting.  This probably will be your only chance to provide input on the location of the new center.   The new gyms at Casimir and Jefferson Middle schools will also be discussed at the meeting in addition to the new high school auditoriums.   Below is a link to the backup material for the locations proposed for the Aquatic Center.   John Bailey, President SETHA         https://torrance.csbaagendaonline.net/cgi-bin/WebObjects/torra...

This report is for Sunday, March 15th through Saturday, March 21, 2015.   RESIDENTIAL BURGLARIES There were 6 residential burglaries in Torrance. 2 in North Torrance, 2 in Riviera area, 1 near Hickory School and 1 in Southeast Torrance.   5 of the 6 burglaries occurred via a pet door, unlocked rear door, unlocked sliding door, open window and open bathroom window.   S.E. Torrance   Wednesday, March 18th, 9 AM to 5:15 PM, 23100 Block Walnut Street Suspect entered unlocked rear door, ransacked and took jewelry, electronics.   AUTO BURGLARIES There were 12 auto burglaries and none in Southeast Torrance.  5 vehicles were unlocked.   AUTO THEFT There were 6 stolen vehicles and none were stolen in Southeast Torrance.   THEFT Catalytic converters were stolen from 3 vehicles over the weekend at the following locations. Report for Sunday, March 8, 2015 through Saturday, March 14, 2015.   RESIDENTIAL BURGLARIES There were 3 in Torrance and none in Southeast Torrance. 1 in the Hollywood Riviera and 2 in North Torrance.  1 of the residences in North Torrance was vacant and nothing was stolen.    AUTO BURGLARIES There were 5 in Torrance and none in Southeast Torrance. 1 vehicles was unlocked and 3 vehicles were entered by unknown means. This Report is for Sunday, March 1, 2015 through Saturday, March 7, 2015.   RESIDENTIAL BURGLARIES There were only two in Torrance and none in Southeast Torrance.   Friday, March 6th 6:30 AM 2900 Block Maricopa St (Madrona HOA area) Suspect pried off screen, entered through open window and opened refrigerator. Property loss unknown at time of report.   Monday, March 2nd  9 AM to 6PM, 16800 Kornblum Avenue (North Torrance) Suspect attempted to force open rear door but fled when observed by witness. Inmate hops fence at Lomita sheriff’s station and is found in Jacuzzi Posted: 03/01/15, 7:13 PM PST | Updated: 1 min ago   By City News Service An inmate working at the sheriff’s Lomita station jumped a fence and tried to escape Sunday afternoon, but was found a couple hours later hiding in a covered Jacuzzi in a nearby backyard, authorities said. The inmate, who is about 23 years old, was in a back parking lot at the station at 26123 Narbonne Ave. about 2:30 p.m. when he “decided he no longer wanted to be incarcerated with us and took off over the west wall,” said sheriff’s Sgt.
