LOMITA PARK SAVED

The Lomita City Council tonight voted 3 -2 not to take any further action on building a Los Angeles Unified School District High School at Lomita Park.

Mayor Margaret Estrada, Councilman Don Suminaga and Councilman Ken Blackwood voted to drop the proposed high school. Councilman Barry Waite and Councilwoman Susan Dever voted against the motion that passed.

The council chambers has a seating capacity of 130 people. It was standing room only with additional people in the lobby area. Both Southeast Torrance and Lomita residents spoke in opposition to the high school without a single person from the audience speaking in favor of it.

SETHA can be very proud of the large turnout of members at the meeting. Mayor Estrada and Councilmembers Suminaga and Blackwood expressed to me their appreciation for SETHA members supporting their position.

John Bailey, President
