Redondo Beach kidnapping suspect in possible standoff with police, victim found safe
REDONDO BEACH >> Special weapons team officers surrounded a Torrance motel this morning where a Redondo Beach kidnapping suspect was possibly holed up in a room.
The police action at the Super 8 motel on Sepulveda Boulevard near Crenshaw Boulevard shut down Sepulveda from Crenshaw to Arlington Street. Torrance police advised motorists to avoid the area.
The kidnapping occurred about 3:20 a.m. when a 22-year-old woman was forced at gunpoint into an older gold Honda Accord sedan in 900 block of Carnelian Street, Redondo Beach police Lt. Joe Hoffman said.
The suspect was believed to be the woman’s former boyfriend, Timothy Thomas, 27, of Los Angeles, police said.
The woman was located at the Super 8 motel about 5:15 a.m. She was safe with police.
“The male suspect is still believed to be inside the hotel room. The suspect’s vehicle has been located at the motel,” Hoffman said.
Both directions of Sepulveda Blvd from Crenshaw Blvd to Arlington Avenue are shut down.
