Weekly Crime Report for Southeast Torrance and More ......


This report is for Sunday, January 31st through Saturday, February 6, 2016.
There were 48 incidents reported to Torrance Police.

RESIDENTIAL BURGLARIES
There were none in Torrance again this week.
AUTO BURGLARIES
There were 19 in Torrance and 1 in Southeast Torrance.
Wednesday, February 3rd, 3:27PM to 4:15PM, 23000 Block Crenshaw Blvd
Window smashed for entry with bag and laptop stolen.
Cash was taken from 6 of the 19 vehicles. Do not leave even loose change
in a cup holder or visible anywhere in your vehicle.

Other items stolen included remote, jewelry, insurance papers, vehicle battery,
wallets, sunglasses, gift cards, trailer hitch, GPS, cell phone, jacket, keys, tablet,
pocket knives, scuba equipment, bag, laptops, backpack, books, W2 and 1099’s, and car registration.
 
AUTO THEFT

8 vehicles were stolen in Torrance and none from Southeast Torrance.

ROBBERY – WEAPON
There were 3 robberies this week compared to 4 last week. 1 in Southeast Torrance.
 
Monday, February 1st, 11PM, 17400 Block Hawthorne Blvd
Suspect brandished a handgun and demanded victims’ cash and cell phone.

Saturday, February 6th, 4:51PM, 3500 Carson St (Del Amo)
Suspect with handgun demanded victim’s wallet.

Saturday, February 6th, 10:15PM, 2400 Block Sepulveda (Pennsylvania Ave)
Suspect entered open business with handgun and demanded cash.

COSTCO
Wednesday, April 27th, will be the grand opening of the new Torrance Costco.
Costco members who currently shop at Torrance Costco will be receiving
an invitation to the grand opening. If you haven't ever been to a Costco
grand opening, you may want to add it to your bucket list.

EXXONMOBIL TORRANCE REFINERY
It appears ExxonMobil plans a refinery start up on March 15th contingent on the
AQMD approving a start up.  ExxonMobil has a 35 day start-up period which
includes the 15 required days to prove out the units including the electrostatic
precipitator (ESP).  Then they will start up the FCC and the other units including
the alkylation unit with 250,000 pounds of modified hydrofluoric acid (MHF)
that have been out of operation.  PBF Energy announced they are scheduled
to buy the refinery on May 1, 2016 if it is fully operational and will continue
using MHF.
 
HOLIDAY SCHEDULE FOR GARBAGE AND RECYCLING COLLECTION
Monday, February 15th is President’s Day.  Your trash pickup date is one day late
next week.

Paper Shredding and Electronics Recycling for Torrance Residents Only

City of Torrance Public Works is holding an Earth Day recycling event for free paper shredding and electronics recycling. Saturday, August 21, 2021 8 a.m. - noon Torrance City Hall East Employee Parking Lot (near Torrance Courthouse off Maple Avenue) The Recycling Event is for TORRANCE RESIDENTS ONLY.
