Weeklty Crime Report and More

   This report is for Sunday, February 15, 2015 through Saturday, February 21, 2015.   RESIDENTIAL BURGLARIES There were 7 in Torrance.  2 in North Torrance, 2 in Old Torrance and 1 each in Madrona HOA area, Victor Park and Southeast Torrance.  Doors were unlocked in 4 of the incidents.   Friday, February 20th, 8:03PM   2100 Block 237th St (Cabrillo -Arlington) Suspect entered unlocked door while victim was home and took game console and cell phone.   Old Torrance – In the incident in the 1600 block of Gramercy Ave, suspect took a garbage disposal from a vacant residence and in the other incident in the 1500 block of Post Avenue, suspect smashed the window again in a vacant residence but there was no loss.  A suspect was arrested by Torrance Police as a result of a phone call by an alert citizen.   AUTO BURGLARIES There were 19 in Torrance and 3 in Southeast Torrance.  7 of the 19 inci...

 Report on ExxonMobil Torrance Refinery Incident of February 18, 2015 SCAQMD Response and Sampling & Analysis Efforts Description of the Incident (Based on information obtained by SCAQMD and provided by ExxonMobil) At around 9 a.m. on February 18, 2015, there was an explosion at the ExxonMobil Torrance Refinery which blew off sections of the Electrostatic Precipitator (ESP), venting the Fluid Catalytic Cracking Unit (FCCU), and released spent catalyst into the air which deposited it in the neighborhood on top of cars and homes and other areas around the refinery. The explosion was reported to be due to over pressurization in the ESP unit. The ESP is a piece of air pollution control equipment which controls particulate matter (PM) emissions from the FCCU and is a relatively new unit, permitted in December 2008 and has been in operation since 2009/2010.    This report is for Sunday, February 1, 2015 through Saturday, February 7, 2015.   RESIDENTIAL BURGLARIES There were 4 in Torrance.  They were all in the North Torrance Area.   AUTO BURGLARY There were 20 in Torrance and one in Southeast Torrance. 2/7 Sat 9 PM to 2/8 Sun 7 AM  2400 Block 232nd St (Pennsylvania – Crenshaw) Vehicle entered by unknown means and laptop was stolen.   There were 3 instances in the 2700 Block of Skypark Drive (Lowe’s) 2/6 Fri 3:20 to 3:50 PM  Third row seat stolen 2/7 Sat 3:45 to 4:30PM  Backpack, laptop, clothes, broadband port stolen from unlocked vehicle. 2/7 Sat 4:30 to 5:30PM  Laptop stolen   AUTO THEFT There were 3 vehicles stolen in Torrance and none in Southeast Torrance.   A 24 year old Rolling Hills Estates man was arrested in Manhattan Beach on Tuesday and admitted he burglarized more than 100 cars in Manhattan Beach during the past six months...

MEETING ON 65 FOOT CELL PHONE TOWER AT SUR LA BREA PARK AND MORE

SUR LA BREA PARK The City of Torrance Telecommunications Committee will hold a meeting on Tuesday, February 10, 2015 at 9 AM in the West Annex Commission Meeting Room, City Hall Complex, 3031 Torrance Blvd on the Verizon Wireless proposal to allow the installation and operation of a 65-foot tall telecommunications facility with 12 antennas and the installation of associated equipment at Sur La Brea Park.   If I recall correctly, the last public meeting was on March 13, 2013 when the project was discussed and approved by the Parks and Recreation Commission.    The proposed telecommunications facility will be located within an existing sloped planter directly northeast of the existing tennis courts.  The proposed facility will consist of 12 antennas and 6 RRU’s mounted on a false mono-eucalyptus tree that is 65 feet in height and its associated equipment cabinets located within a new recessed equipment enclosure.    Verizon ...

  This report is for Sunday, January 25, 2015 through Saturday, January 31, 2015.   RESIDENTIAL BURGLARIES There were 6 in Torrance and none in Southeast Torrance. 4 in North Torrance, 1 in the Seaside HOA area and 1 in West Torrance.   AUTO BURGLARIES There were 21 in Torrance and none in Southeast Torrance.   6 were in the 26200 and 26300 Blocks of Delos Drive in the Hillside HOA south of Alta Loma Park between Tuesday, 1/27 5PM and Wednesday, 1/28 5:40AM.   3 auto burglaries were stolen third row seats with a window forced open for entry in the following locations.   2 of them were in the 21300 Block of Hawthorne Blvd (Between Del Amo Center and Fashion Way).   1 was in the 17800 Block of Crenshaw Blvd.     AUTO THEFT There were 9 stolen vehicles in Torrance and none in Southeast Torrance.   THEFT Thursday, January 29th, 4:36PM  2300 Block 227th St (Cypress to Pennsyl...
