RESIDENTIAL BURGLARIES
There were 3 in Torrance and none in Southeast Torrance.
2 in West Torrance and 1 in North Torrance.
 
AUTO BURGLARIES
There were 5 in Torrance and none in Southeast Torrance.
2 in North Torrance and 1 each in Hillside, Southwood Riviera and Madrona areas.
 
AUTO THEFT
There were 6 in Torrance and 1 in Southeast Torrance.

THEFT
13 incidents in Torrance and none in Southeast Torrance.
No incidents of porch piracy.
 
CITY COUNCIL ACTION on Tuesday, August 27th
 
A proposed new 46-unit apartment complex of two 3-story buildings at 18021-18141 Western Avenue was continued to an uncertain date at the request of the developer.  The site has been vacant for approximately 14 years and was previously a meat market.
 
The City Council approved the purchase and installation of new playground and fitness at Sur La Brea Park, 23610 Cabrillo Avenue, in Southeast Torrance.  Construction is slated during the period from September 1, 2019 to March 31, 2020.
 
The City Council approved a recommendation of the City Attorney for proposed amendments to the City Charter including changing the City Clerk from elected to appointed and changing the City Treasure from elected to appointed.  The next public hearing on the proposed amendment changes will be Tuesday, October 1, 2019.
 
PLANNING COMMISSION ACTION on Wednesday, August 21st
 
A Conditional  Use Permit was approved to allow the operation of a bakery restaurant on the property at 2404 Sepulveda Blvd which is at the southwest corner of Sepulveda Blvd and Pennsylvania Ave adjacent to Wendy’s.
 
TRASH PICKUP THE WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 1ST
Due to the Labor Day holiday, trash pickup, in Southeast Torrance, will be on Friday, September 6th, one day later than usual.

Southeast Torrance 7 12 5PM 2400 Block 235th Place Suspect entered open garage, entered residence via open access door, fled when resident yelled at him. No property loss Old Torrance 7 12 1AM 800 Block Portola Ave Suspected entered residence via unlocked door and fled when victim woke up in the bedroom. Hillside 7 16 2:44AM 2500 Ridgeland Rd Glass Panel removed to unlock door for entry, Suspects fled when victim awoke, screamed and chased them out of the residence.
