Weekly Crime Report for Southeast Torrance

This report is for Sunday, July 17, 2016 through Saturday, July 23, 2016. 72 incidents were reported to Torrance Police.   RESIDENTIAL BURGLARIES There were 6 in Torrance and none in Southeast Torrance. 4 in North Torrance and 1 each in Olde Torrance and Walteria.   AUTO BURGLARIES There were 22 in Torrance and none in Southeast Torrance. 3 were reported in the 2600 Block of PCH, 1 in the 3400 Block of Carson, 1 in the 3500 Block of Carson and 1 in the 3600 Block of Fashion Way. Third row seats were taken from two vehicles.   AUTO THEFT There were 4 stolen vehicles and 1 in Southeast Torrance. Tuesday, July 19th 11:30 to 11:45 AM, 235th and Cabrillo  1995 Ford Van   THEFT There were 19 reported thefts and none in Southeast Torrance.   ROBBERY – WEAPON There was one incident in Southeast Torrance. Monday, July 18th, 6:20PM, 230th St and Arlington Ave Suspect brandished a knife and demanded victim’s wallet.   John Bailey, President

Update on Proposed High-density Apartment Project at Lomita and Crenshaw Blvd

A consultant for the City of Lomita is currently preparing the environmental document. It will not get to a hearing until sometime later this year or early next year. The proposed project is a five-story, 236 unit apartment building with two floors of subterranean parking.  About 10% of the units will be studios, 55% will be one-bedroom and 35% will be two-bedrooms with 426 parking spaces.  The intersection is a “F” rated intersection by the city of Torrance.  John Bailey, President Southeast Torrance Homeowners’ Association, Inc. Daily Breeze Article on Millions of Dollars in ExxonMobil Fines

ExxonMobil hits the front page of the Daily Breeze on Tuesday morning with disclosure of a huge amount of fines. On May 13, 2016, ExxonMobil paid the AQMD $4,000,000.00 for Rule 1118 mitigation fines for FY 15-16. On May 29, 2014, ExxonMobil paid the AQMD $7,250,000.00 for Rule 1118 mitigation fines for FY 13-14. Here is the link to the Daily Breeze article. This report is for Sunday, June 26, 2016 through Saturday, July 2, 2016. There were 47 incidents reported.   RESIDENTIAL BURGLARIES There were none reported in Torrance.   AUTO BURGLARIES There were 6 in Torrance and none in Southeast Torrance. 4 vehicles were not secured and windows were smashed in 2 vehicles to gain entry. Items stolen included:  Cash, Chargers, Laptop, Tablet, Purses, Speakers, Clothes, Handicap Placard, GPS, Keys, Sunglasses, Computer monitor, Registration, Insurance papers, CDs, and headphones.   AUTO THEFT There were 7 vehicles stolen in Torrance and none in Southeast Torrance.   THEFT 14 items were taken including 8 unattended items:  Backpacks, Wallets, Hat, Keys, Sunglasses, Cellphones, Purses, Cash and a Bicycle.   John Bailey, President Southeast Torrance Homeowners’ Association, Inc. Southern Calif Live Steamers Facility Robbed and Vandalized

  · Southern California Live Steamers is saddened to share with our riders that the SCLS facility in Wilson Park, Torrance, was once again robbed and vandalized. This time, the vandals heavily damaged one storage unit that housed an engine and operations equipment.   The Sunday Run Day on July 3rd will be severely impacted so we are asking for your patience.  Our volunteer members will try to rebuild and restore what has been damaged or stolen so that we can return to regular opera ting conditions. It has always been our pleasure to provide FREE train rides and we are saddened by this egregious event. As you know, SCLS is a non-profit, all-volunteer organization. Our operation and maintenance costs are thru your donations. Unfortunately, funds used to fix this damage will impact planned improvements and enhancements. While this matter is currently being handled by the Torrance Police Department, we need your help in preventing future vandalism and maybe eve
