Weekly Crime Report for Southeast Torrance

This report is for the period for Sunday, June 14, 2015 through Saturday, June 20, 2015.   RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY There were 5 in Torrance and none in Southeast Torrance.   In one incident in North Torrance, suspect cut the sliding door screen and pried the sliding glass door but did not gain entry.  In the other North Torrance attempt, suspect removed three window screens, opened window and fled when the burglar alarm activated. In the Old Torrance attempt, the suspect attempted to kick in the door but did not gain entry. In the De Portola Park area attempt, the suspect smashed a sliding glass door and fled when a resident inside the house woke up.   AUTO BURGLARY There were 8 in Torrance and none in Southeast Torrance.   AUTO THEFT There were 6 incidents in Torrance and none in Southeast Torrance.   THEFT Tuesday, June 16, 11 AM to 6 PM.  23600 Block Pennsylvania Avenue Chairs taken from patio.   John Bailey, President SETHA

Lomita Fireworks

The City of Lomita Fireworks Show will be held this Saturday, June 27th, starting a 9 PM at Lomita Park.  The annual Founder’s Day Celebration will begin at 3PM with music, carnival games, food trucks and performances by local groups.  Lomita Park is at 24428 Eshelman Avenue in Lomita.   The fireworks show was paid for by the following individuals and companies. No city funds were used to purchase the fireworks.

Weekly Crime Report The report for the period Sunday, June 7th through Saturday, June 13th is not available.   Updates The rescheduled agenda item for the 16 unit condominium unit project on Arlington Avenue between 236th Place and 237th Street was presented to the Planning Commission on Wednesday, June 17th.  The property is currently zoned commercial C5 and would be changed to residential RP.   28 residents from Southeast Torrance attended the meeting but only 5 residents were allowed to speak before public input was no longer allowed.  Residents expressed their concerns about the density of the project, impact on traffic, additional parking problems in the residential areas on 236th Place and 237th Avenue and other issues.   Residents questioned the projected traffic statistics showing 344 trips per day from the existing commercial development and only a total of 15 trips per day from the 16 unit condominium project. This report is for Sunday, May 24th through Saturday, May 30, 2015   RESIDENTIAL BURGLARIES There were 2 in Torrance.  1 in Southeast Torrance and 1 in West Torrance.   Wednesday, May 27th, 6 PM to 9:30 PM, 1700 Block 235th St (Western Ave to Walnut) Suspect smashed rear sliding glass door for entry, ransacked and took electronics & jewelry.   Friday, May 29th, 8 AM to 5:20 PM, 4900 Block Halison St (Anza to Pruitt Drive) Suspect smashed window for entry, ransacked and took autographed baseball.   AUTO BURGLARIES There were 9 in Torrance and none in Southeast Torrance. 4 catalytic converters were stolen from vehicles.  3 in North Torrance and 1 in West Torrance. 2 third row seat thefts were reported.  1 in North Torrance and 1 in Old Torrance.   AUTO THEFT There were 5 vehicles stolen in Torrance and none in Southeast Torrance.   A total of 43 incidents were reported on the weekly crime report.   John Bailey, President SE
